Keep Your Air Ducts Clean in the Summer!

6/30/2017 (Permalink)

You can breathe easier with clean air ducts!

Ah, summer. It’s a time to get outside and enjoy the fresh air and the sunshine. And while you are outdoors, it’s the perfect time to check the environment inside. Several factors determine if you have clean air in your home.

If you have a basement you most likely have had mold at some point. No matter how much it appears the mold is gone, that nasty stuff still lingers.

Pet hair

Dogs and cats are family members but they leave fur and dander behind. Over the months and years, this builds up in your ducts. If you have pets, it is recommended you have your air ducts checked regularly.

Finding dust in an air duct is not due to your housekeeping skills. When you dust, the stuff must go somewhere. Often, it gets trapped in your heating and cooling system.

Other factors

It’s not just mold, dust and pet hair that affect the air you breathe. Ducts are a breeding ground for bacteria. And if you have someone who is a smoker or if someone previously smoked in the home, the air ducts become polluted.

The effects of dirty ducts

While ducts are out of sight and often out of mind, neglecting them affects your family and possibly their health. Are you suffering from sinus problems you just can’t shake? Do your young children have recurring colds? The accumulation of dust, mold, pet dander and mold dirties the air and affects your health.

You will not only breathe easier, but your heating and air system will work better. When free of the debris, the fans and motor don’t have to work so hard to cool or heat your home.

While it is summertime and the living is easy, why not let SERVPRO of Rutherford County make the breathing easier in your home? The cleaner air now will benefit you in the fall and winter months when you spend more time indoors.
